the need

Research indicates that there is a link t=between unresolved grief and chronic depression, physical and psychological illness, behavior problems, and suicide. yet, grief is one of the least understood stressors in our society today. Layers of unresolved grief can accumulate year after year and go unrecognized by the grieve, the family, friends, and even the professionals involved.

Counseling and psychotherapy
For children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. We sometimes use two therapists as a team, (cotherapy), or we put several families with similar concerns together into a group, (multiple family therapy).

the fees

Our fees are standard and are commensurate with quality service. We take Champus and other insurance which covers the services of licensed psychotherapists.

the staff

lynn schwartz, ph.d., mfcc, Founder and Director of the Grief Recovery Center is a psychotherapist, college instructor, and speaker. she specializes in individual, relationship, and group counseling of persons in grief and in transition. she has been a supervisor of counseling interns and does professional training. she has developed the “Saying Goodbye and Letting Go” workshop which is a breakthrough n the field of grief counseling. Research over the past five years on the effectiveness of the workshop shows a statistically significant improvement experienced by participants. Dr. Schwartz is an appointed member of the San Diego Certification Review Board for the National Forum on Death Education and Counseling.

Robert price, ph.d., mfcc, specializes in individual and family counseling of persons with chronic illness or life-threatening disease. He has been working with patients with serious physical disease for over 10 years. Dr. Price is psychotherapeutic techniques are designed in part to assist the patient’s response to medical therapy by enlisting the patient as an active rather than a passive agent in his own treatment. He was trained by Carl Simonton, .D., in the Simonton approach to disease remission. Dr. Price has developed his own techniques and expertise by working as a clinician and researcher at a cancer clinic and hospital.

mary thielbahr, m.a., psychologist, has specialized in working with families, children, and adolescents for over 16 years. She has worked in both psychiatric and geriatric hospitals in California and Illinois and has been a psychological consultant and trainer in the public school system.

helen antoniak, m.s.w., ph.d., a.c.s.w., a widowhood consultant, founded in Widowed-to-Widowed Program. She is co-author of Alone: Emotional, Legal and Financial Help for the Widowed Woman, and has designed a series of cassettes for people adjusting to the end of a marriage. the “Creative Widowhood Adjustment” and the “Creative Divorce Adustmanet” cassettes are used all over the United States. Dr. Antoniak is an author, speaker, and college teacher.

ann bennet sturgis, ph.d., is an international consultant/specialist in stress reduction, stress management, transpersonal development, and performance optimization. her audio cassettes on relaxation, stress reduction, time management, healing, and pain control have been used extensively by health professionals and recommended by them for wide application.
